Frequently Asked Questions
What times am I able to volunteer?
AIDS Walk Day assignments are typically 3 - 4 hours long and range from the evening before the walk to early morning, mid-morning, and afternoon shifts. The latest volunteer shift ends around 3:30pm. Volunteers can choose assignments that allow them to also participate as walkers and runners.
- What is the minimum age to volunteer?
Youth between the ages of 12 and 16 can volunteer in the park or along the route with supervision from an accompanying adult. Registration volunteers must be at least 16. Unfortunately we cannot include volunteers younger than 12.
- What are the training requirements to volunteer for the Walk or Run?
We will provide an online basic training for you to download. We encourage volunteers to attend a meet-and-greet t-shirt pickup with their Captains a few weeks before AIDS Walk Day. Additionally, Captains will conduct a 15-minute training at the beginning of your shift on AIDS Walk Day.
- How do I get my volunteer t-shirt?
Volunteers are required to wear their AIDS Walk volunteer t-shirt during their shift. The shirts usually arrive 2-3 weeks before AIDS Walk Day. When you register for your shift, the Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you about specific dates when you can pick up your shirt. We do bring a limited number of t-shirts to the park, and these are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Can groups volunteer for the AIDS Walk and Run for the Ribbon?
Some areas of the AIDS Walk and Run for the Ribbon require many volunteers, and others just a few. We can easily assign a group to areas needing more help! When you sign up, be sure to type in your group and the number of participants, so we can include you in the same area.
