Chemical Health Training
The MAP AIDSLine received funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to create a curriculum and a two-day training for chemical dependency providers that focuses on working with those living with HIV and to assess for those who may be unaware of their status. This training is titled, “The Intersection of Chemical Health and HIV”. During the training, counselors learn:
-
To assess for HIV, HCV and STI risk behaviors -
Overcome discomfort when addressing HIV issues with clients -
Understand professional boundaries and confidentiality laws as they relate to HIV -
Embed HIV risk assessment and treatment planning into existing chemical health models -
Create a safe culture for those living with HIV.
The AIDSLine will be providing ten more trainings offered throughout Greater Minnesota. To learn learn more about the training, future locations or registration, head to www.dhs.state.mn.us/trainlink.
Minnesota HIV Services Planning Council 2010 Comprehensive Needs Assessment
The HIV Services Planning Council recently launched the 2010 Comprehensive Needs Assessment of Minnesotans living with HIV. The results of the Needs Assessment are used to assist the Council in the biennial prioritization of services and the annual allocation of Ryan White funds to service areas and activities. Good progress has been made and the Planning Council is on its way to reaching their goal 500 completed surveys. Early analysis has shown good representation from various demographics in the survey. However, the African-Born community is not well represented at this time. The Council needs your help encouraging members of this community to take the survey so their voice can be heard!
A person must be living with HIV to complete this survey. To participate, log on to http://mhspc.e2community.com. The survey will not ask for identifying information. Those that fill out the Needs Assessment will be awarded a $10 gift card to Target, Cub Foods or Wal-Mart which will be mailed to participants.
For more information about the Needs Assessment or questions about receiving gift cards, call 612-596-7894 or 888-638-3224.
